Sad news to report that Dean Summers was rushed into hospital and was critically ill for several days; his condition has now improved. We wish him well and our thoughts are with him, his family and close friends.

The South Western GSD Club is holding a Breed Specific Judging Seminar. The morning session is ‘understanding the Breed Standard and the KC Hands on Assessment.’ The afternoon session in 2 groups; group 1 Judging the German Shepherd Dog; group 2 (B list judges only restricted to 6 candidates) Judging Assessment and Exam. The KC HOA, judging assessment and exam all on one day and about 25 miles away. What a contrast to taking the Breed Council route. I travelled to Essex twice, once for the exam and another day for an assessment at Essex Champ. Show. I travelled to Wales twice to take the KC HOA and another day for an assessment at Wales Champ. Show. I think a prospective judge’s knowledge would be more thoroughly tested the BC way, by spending a day taking the exam, with multiple choice questions in the morning, and questions requiring fuller written answers in the afternoon for the theory part. And for the practical part being assessed at Champ. Shows by well-respected and experienced breed judges. I suspect the fast track candidates who get it all done in a day will be judging Champ. Shows long before we that have chosen to take the long and winding road.
At Southern Counties the judge was Brigid Fahy-Newlands. 1st PD Belfield & Mackenzie’s Kassieger Cello. 2nd PGD Swift’s Veneze Dino. 3rd LD Hensley, Hiscox & Vessey’s Zumander Bacchus. 2nd PGB Julian’s Gazjackhof Carlie at Lindmark. 2nd LB Sheffield’s Willowdale Kiefa.
