I have received a phone call from a worried Larry Yates, who has heard that Sheila has designs on his body hair. He assures me that although he has a full head of hair,

elsewhere he is follicly challenged. If further proof is needed I’ll leave that to you Sheila!

We visited the newest South West German Import Mentos v Huhnegrab (Erasmus v Noort x Betty v Huhnegrab), brought in by John and Gill Ward and Derek and Ann Bonds. When we met him Gill had him on a loose lead, he did the typical shepherd greeting of looking you straight in the eye, giving you a precursory sniff to find out whether friend or foe, then satisfied, moving on as there must be a ball to chase or a scent to track. The quickest way to describe him is to say he is father typical.

The next local shows are Heads of the Valley GSDC on Sunday 27^th June, judge Mr D O’Niell. And Plymouth & District Canine Society on Saturday 31^st July, there are seven classes for GSDs, an outside ring, judge is Pat Wills.

As to the suspected use of steroids and other aids to improve the performance and appearance of a dog. When money and ego outweigh ethics, the welfare of the dog is not considered in the equation. There are crooks, cheats, and charlatans in every game, so why would the dog game be any different. The sad fact is, contrary to the old adage, they do prosper to the detriment of the breed.
