      I begin this month with the sad news that Iris Butler (Voneche) has passed away. She will be greatly missed by many. Our thoughts are with Angela, Andy and family.

      Margaret and Rob took a bitch over to Germany to mate to Quentin and whilst over there visited the Dutch Sieger Show.

      Anna and Larry mated their Esko daughter to Quantum and then went on to the Belgian Sieger Show. While stopped in a layby for a brew they were approached by some German police, who questioned them.

      Peter and Dennis took our Larus daughter over to be mated to Pakros. While staying in a hotel near Nuremberg they were accosted by the police, who wished to know why Peter’s van, which is caged out for several dogs, only had the one dog in it.

      Congratulations to John and Pauline on Orbit’s VA3 position at the German Sieger Show. It was young Jasmyn Davies first visit to the Sieger Show and she was thrilled to be in the main stadium handling in Orbit’s progeny group.

      Well done to the Cornish owners of Mentos v Huhnegrab V42 at the German Sieger and VA5 at the Croatia Sieger Show.

      Tom and Julie Bridge were staying at the same hotel in Oberhausen. They were a little tense as Astana Alfons was being exhibited at the Sieger Show. The relief that it was over, and the feeling that it had all been worthwhile when he gained the very creditable SG14 position, was etched on their faces at breakfast Monday morning. To say they were thoroughly delighted would be an understatement. Congratulations to all concerned.

      Jo Lewis e-mailed the news that Ji (Morrow Akuna) has been breed surveyed Class One. Well done to them.

      Dave Edmunds’s sable dog Spike (Pepnick Hocus Pocus) qualified SchH1 at Severnside, despite being handicapped by having Dave as his handler! The dog did a near perfect protection round, it was Dave that lost him the points. I expect Spike will give you another chance Dave.

      When I told my Mother we were taking our bitch to Germany to be mated, she said ‘Can’t you find a dog nearer?’ When she was farming and the cow was ready for mating they contacted the A.I. Centre, who sent a chap out to fertilize the cow with the bull’s semen.  Previously they had looked through the Centre’s stud book and decided which bull from the pictures and pedigree would best suit the cow. It is no wonder she thinks it takes too much time, effort and expense to breed dogs.
