      Congratulations to Sarah Julian on Zuberg Lyric gaining his first CC and to Dave and Denise Hensley his breeders. Also to Pam and Joyce on Dotty v Bierstadter Hof gaining her second CC.

      We have recently imported a dog with Dennis and Wayne. If anyone is nosey like myself and wants to look him up on WinSIS his name is Qai v Estherlager ( spelt Qia in the database ) a son of the V3 Mike. He is billeted with Dennis and Wayne as they have no other males and we have. Reuben, our Dark son, is the dominant male. Sparky having grown up with him there never seriously challenges him. One of Reuben’s sons came back to us, his owners had separated and neither of them was able to look after the dog. He challenged Reuben as soon as he arrived. His father wrestled him to the ground and sat on him, first one way then the other. The matter of who was boss was settled, and the only thing that was hurt was the younger dog’s pride.

I had an e-mail from Tania Deane with news of her young male, Sagaro Hoby, my BPIB & BOB at Hastings, that was the first time she had shown him and she handled him herself. She was delighted he has just gained another BOB, well done to them both.

      We went to the film show about Percy, Dennis spent several years on this production, so he must be relieved it went off with no hitches and everyone seemed to enjoy it. We met Chris Hazell there, she had e-mailed us that she had some American quarterly magazines we wanted, so she took them to the film show for us to pick up. Browsing through them I came across the following poem.

I think that I shall never see

A dog as natural as a tree.

For in the ring, what show dog stands

That’s shown untouched by human hands?

A dog with ears erect and tall

That never needed tape at all.

A dog that gaits and doesn’t quit

Without the double handling bit.

A dog with perfect scissor bite

Untouched by dentist in the night.

A dog who stands on lead so loose

Without his owners’ “jingling” ruse.

A dog that’s truly black and tan

Without the aid of Clairol’s can.

A dog with tail that doesn’t hook

And wasn’t fixed by any crook.

Dog owners, please, this warning heed,

For show dogs aren’t a different breed.

Those little tricks that cover faults

Can’t cover progeny results!
