      We were disappointed not to exhibit Sparky at the Heads of the Valley Champ. Show as it is his homeground, but I was asked to take notes and steward in the bitch ring for Wilfried Scheld. Although being female multi-tasking comes naturally I thought I should concentrate on one aspect of the show, besides Sparky’s usual handler Rob was stewarding alongside me.  As I was involved in the show I could not possibly comment on the marvellous weather, good food, efficient organisation, excellent venue, super trophies and top prize rosettes, and friendly atmosphere (I even saw several of the Grumpy Old Men smiling). I will leave that to someone else. My only complaint was that by the time I had finished my stewarding stint they had run out of cider. I especially needed a drink to steady my nerves as Dennis and Wayne had brought Pepsi to the show for Peter and Larry to take her over to Germany to be Kkld. They had to drive through the night as they were booked on the 5am ferry from Dover. Heaven knows when I would see either of them again or into what trouble they would get themselves before I did. So you see the drink would have been for purely medicinal purposes. Wilfried Scheld commented to me upon the excellent quality of the bitches he judged, which was pleasing. It is difficult for a German SV judge to understand the different classes in our KC show system, and the ages and qualifications that determine the entry in certain classes, which they need you to explain to them. After the individuals of the first adult class the judge said, ‘And now the gun test?’ So I had to explain to him why we do not have a gun test. Apparently in Germany even at the general all breeds shows held inside, they allow the GSDs to go outside to do the gun test and then return to their ring inside to be judged. Then he asked if we had off lead gaiting for the adults, again the reasons we did not had to be explained.  The judge did not even consider the puppies to be in contest for the CCs. He was surprised to learn that under KC rules they were included in the final line up. ‘They are very promising, but they are only puppies,’ he commented. How refreshing to find a German judge with that attitude.       At the show I was sorry to hear that Iris Butler’s German import Zambi von der Wolfsmatte has died. She is the dam of Voneche Edition that Iris, Andy and Angela are showing at the moment.

      While we were showing Sparky at Southern Counties, another of our German bitches Hilla v Modithor was being shown at the Universalsiegerschau. Bad Hall in Austria and she was V1 there.

      In Wurttemberg LG13 at a LGZS Bond’s Mentos v Huhnegrab was V7.

      Congratulations to owner Sarah Julian and family, and breeders Dave and Denise Hensley on Zuberg Lyric gaining his third CC and Champion status at Blackpool under judge Brenda Banbury.       I was saddened to hear of the death of Jayne Swan. I did not know her personally but we corresponded.  She always thought of others and though she could not be at the SWGSDC Ch. Show on Sylvia Khozevar’s 85^th birthday she sent a card to me to pass on to Sylvia. Jayne always joined in anything that was of benefit to the breed she was one of the first to send us a marked up show catalogue to put the results on our website, and she did so after every show. We had only recently received the schedule for Clyde Valley Show from her for us to advertise it on the website. I heard on Quote, unquote on the radio a comment that made me think of Jayne. ‘The moment I wake up and find all my old dogs licking my face, I shall know I have died and gone to heaven.’

      These results were received over the telephone, many thanks for them and I apologise in advance for any inaccuracies. At the GSDC of Kent, dogs in the first six.
